MasterAssist®
The purpose of the MasterAssist programme is to provide valuable services to you and your dependents when travelling at least 160 kilometres (100 miles) from your city of residence. Although MasterAssist provides valuable emergency assistance services, it is not insurance coverage. Expenses incurred are your responsibility.

MasterAssist provides emergency assistance services 24 hours a day, seven days a week (including holidays). This service is provided to:
  • You the cardholder;
  • Your spouse; and
  • Any unmarried dependent children under 25 years of age and travelling with you.

MasterAssist Services are provided by AXA Assistance USA, Inc.. MasterCard International Incorporated reserves the right to change the features of the programme and/or terminate it at any time.
MasterAssist representatives will do their best to make appropriate referrals and assist the cardholder and other eligible persons in obtaining information and services as described in this document. However, these services are provided by independent service provider and despite our best efforts, situations can arise beyond our control. Under these circumstances, we will make every effort to assist you and eligible family members. MasterCard shall have no legal liability or responsibility whatsoever for any loss, expense, damage, or injury that results from the actions or omission of any doctors, dentists, medical facilities, health providers or lawyers seen by you or other eligible family members pursuant to this programme.

1) Emergency Medical References
If you or an eligible family member has a medical emergency while travelling, the MasterCard Assistance Centre will help obtain the best care possible including:

  • Referrals to local doctors, dentists, clinics and hospitals;
  • Assistance in getting prescriptions filled, refilled or replaced (subject to local laws);
  • Assigning a doctor to monitor his or her medical condition in a medical emergency;
  • Keeping your family members, friends and/or business associates fully informed;
  • Arranging emergency medical evacuations or repatriations of remains, should they become necessary.

2) Legal Referrals
If you require legal assistance due to detention, arrest, imprisonment or similar emergency situations, the MasterCard Assistance Centre will help provide referrals to local legal professionals and/or contact the closest embassy or consulate. There is no guarantee or assurance that such professional so referred will accept the referral.

3) Transfer of Advance of Bail
To assist you or other eligible family members with legal fees or to post bail, the MasterCard Assistance Centre will arrange to transfer up to USD $5,000 or local currency equivalent thereto from family, friends or other accounts.

4) Emergency Cash
If your cash or traveller’s cheques are lost or stolen—or if any unexpected emergency arises requiring immediate cash, MasterCard Assistance Centre will:

  • Arrange to have emergency cash up to USD $5,000 (or local currency equivalent thereto) transmitted to the Cardholder from his or her line of credit in a timely fashion (subject to authorization by the Card Issuer).
  • Transfer funds from friends or family up to USD $5,000 (or local currency equivalent thereto), if legally permitted. Money may either be wired to the Cardholder or delivered by a bonded administrative agent if available. (This transfer of funds requires receipt of a guaranty satisfactory to MasterCard Assistance Centre from the Cardholder’s family, friends or other third parties.)

5) Lost Document and Ticket Replacement Insurance
If your travel ticket, passport or visa is lost or stolen while travelling, MasterCard Assistance Centre, at your expense, will assist in locating or replacing such documents and forwarding them to you. In this connection, MasterCard Assistance Centre will contact local police, diplomatic contacts, airline personnel and such other persons as appropriate to assist you to find or replace the lost item(s).

6) Transmission of Urgent Messages
In case of an emergency, and at your request or an eligible family member’s request, urgent messages will be relayed to family, friends and business associates.

7) Tracing and Redirecting Lost Luggage
If your luggage, or that of an eligible family member, is lost by an airline or other common carrier, the MasterCard Assistance Centre will help you locate it and co-ordinate the return of the luggage once it has been found.

In the event that the carrier is unable to locate the luggage after being requested to do so, MasterCard Assistance Centre will arrange for the shipment of replacement items (within appropriate limits) to you at your expense so that your inconvenience is kept to a minimum.

8) Pre-Trip Destination Information
This service provides valuable, pre-trip information, such as information about:

  • travel documents (passport, visa)
  • weather reports,
  • medical requirements and precautions, and
  • currency exchange rates, for travel outside the your country of residence.

The MasterCard Assistance Centre will also help you with arrangements to take care of any special medical needs en route.

Exclusions
Services are available worldwide, with the exception of those countries and territories which may be involved in an international or internal conflict, or in those countries and territories where the existing infrastructure is deemed inadequate by AXA Assistance USA to guarantee service.

Effective Date of Services
You become eligible to receive the MasterAssist services on the effective date of the programme or the date your Butterfield / AAdvantage® Platinum MasterCard® card is issued, whichever is later. Your spouse and any unmarried, dependent children 25 years of age and under become eligible on the effective date of the programme, or the date you were issued your Butterfield / AAdvantage® PlatinumMasterCard® card whichever is later.

Termination Date
The MasterAssist benefits for any eligible family member shall terminate:

  • As of the date the MasterAssist programme terminates
  • The date the person ceases to be eligible.
