The purpose of the MasterTravel programme is to provide cardholders insurance coverage against accidental death and dismemberment (includes loss of sight/hearing) when traveling by land, air or sea on a licensed common carrier. Cardholders must purchase tickets using their Butterfield / AAdvantage® MasterCard® cards. The program is insured by AIG and managed by Marsh, Inc.
Coverage
Coverage is provided when an Insured Person suffers a bodily injury (an "injury") as a result of an accident occurring during a trip (domestic or international) taken by the Insured Person between the point of departure and the destination, provided the person is riding as a passenger on a licensed common carrier and the full fare has been paid with his or her Butterfield / AAdvantage® MasterCard® card.
The coverage applies only when the Insured Person is riding as a passenger in or on, boarding or alighting from any air, land or water vehicle or conveyance that is licensed by an appropriate authority for transportation of passengers for hire.
Insured Persons
Coverage is provided to the cardholder, spouse and unmarried dependent children under age 23, including stepchildren or legally adopted children (terms and conditions apply).
The spouse and dependent children do not need to be traveling with the cardholder to be considered Insured Persons.

"Loss", as used in the previous chart with reference to hand or foot, means dismemberment consisting of complete permanent severance through or above the wrist or ankle joint, and as used with reference to eye, hearing or speech means irrecoverable loss of the entire sight of such eye, both ears or speech. If more than one loss results from any one Accident, only one amount, the largest, will be paid.
Exposure and Disappearance
If by reason of an accident covered by the policy, an Insured Person suffers a loss resulting from being unavoidably exposed to the elements due to an Accident will be payable as if resulting from an Injury. The loss must occur within 365 days from the date of the Accident which caused Injury.
If the body of the Insured Person has not been found within one year after the date of disappearance as a result of forced landing, stranding, sinking or wrecking of a conveyance in which such Insured Person was a passenger at the time of the accident, it will be presumed that the person suffered the loss of life resulting from bodily injury caused solely by the accident.
